About the MNjcc:

Founded on this site in 1953 the MNjcc is home to a state of the art Fitness Centre, the Al Green Theatre, four schools, four choirs, a wide range of arts and cultural activities, Jewish Life programming, and a robust Active 55+ program. It is a founding member of the Bloor Street Cultural Corridor.
Short Description of the Position:
The Summer Camp Head Staff is a leadership position within JCamp that plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the program. The position includes mentoring and training camp staff, as well as supporting the Manager in generating engaging programming for campers.
Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:
• This position is in person and staff must be able to present full vaccination again Covid-19
• Staff may be designated to stay with ill children in an isolation room until parents or caregivers come for their child. Staff will be equipped with masks, visors, gloves, and a smock to ensure their health and safety.
• Staff will disinfect any surfaces touched by a child in the isolation room immediately after the child leaves.
• Staff will be provided with PPE in the form of face masks and gloves.
Schedule:
• Contract will run from June 17th- August 21st
• 37.5 hours a week
• 8 hours shifts scheduled between the hours of 8am-5:30pm Monday-Friday
Salary and Benefits:
• $20.50 hour, plus eligibility for Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant
• 2 Personal Emergency Leave Days
• Gym membership for the duration of the contract
• Opportunities for additional work at the end of the contract within the Early Childhood Education Department.
Description
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support camp staff in generating age-appropriate and engaging programming, taking into account varying levels of abilities.
• Work with the Manager, JCamp to develop weekly theme day activities and support their facilitation
• Provide direct supervisor to 2-3 campers groups and staff, mentoring and supporting Camp Staff as needed. Provide verbal feedback to Camp Staff as required.
• Facilitate Pre Camp Training by leading informational sessions and group games.
• Address parental concerns and coordinate discussions with multiple levels of staff in the agency to address new or ongoing issues.
• Ensure camper groups have the necessary resources to fulfill programmed activities and notify Manager, JCamp when materials need to be purchased.
• Fill in for camp staff when necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening completed within 6 months of the contract’s start date.
• Current Standard First Aid CPR-C
• Up-to-date immunization record (TB, Hep B, MMR)
• 2 years prior experience working with children and youth.
• Prior experience in a leadership position and comfortable mentoring and coaching peers.
• Previous experience in a similar position considered an asset.
• Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada.
• Ability to communicate easily with parents and other staff
• Please note that full vaccination against covid-19 (or valid accommodation) is currently required to work in-person at the MNjcc at this time.
• Staff must be able to work the entire duration of the contract, candidates who cannot work all weeks will not be considered.
