Music Programs We Offer
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced musician, our programs offer a welcoming space to sing, play, and grow. Join a choir, explore pop music, or develop skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment. No matter your level, you’ll find opportunities to connect with others, make music, and enjoy the joy of learning together.
Sing a diverse repertoire in a choir that is all energy and heart. Our SATB choir meets on Monday evenings and tackles a diverse range of music, including world, jazz, classical, Jewish, folk, Canadian, gospel, and pop genres. Singers learn expression, blend, vocal production, and reading. A vocal assessment is required for all new members.
The MNjcc welcomes and encourages choral singers from racialized persons/persons of colour, women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ persons, people of any and no faith, and others who reflect the diversity of our community, our city and our country.
My Pop Choir is where the joy of music and the power of community come together in perfect harmony. With a passion for providing an audition-free, pressure-free environment, My Pop Choir offers a sanctuary for individuals, regardless of their musical background, to come together and let their voices shine.
Founded in 1992, the MNjcc Suzuki Program offers music education for all ages in a supportive, non-competitive community. Artistic Director Kate Shaner leads the program alongside Artistic Director Emeritus Gretchen Paxson Abberger.
Our Adult Instrumental programs offer welcoming, skill-building opportunities for musicians at every level. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or reconnecting with your musical practice, the MNjcc provides supportive group experiences led by expert instructors. Join our Adult Ukulele class to learn foundational chords, strumming patterns, tuning, and technique in a fun and beginner-friendly environment. Explore Jewish musical traditions in our Klezmer Ensemble, open to instrumentalists of all levels who want to develop arranging skills, deepen ensemble playing, and engage creatively with this rich musical genre. For violin, viola, and cello players, our Adult String Ensemble offers a chance to refine technique, build ensemble confidence, and participate in performance opportunities throughout the year. New participants are encouraged to connect with Gretchen at gretchena@mnjcc.org for guidance before registering.
