    2018 SUZUKI CAMP WRAP UP

From July 9-13 MNjcc Suzuki Program staff and guest teachers spent an inspired week together with 41 children, ages 4 – 14 years, from varied Toronto Suzuki Schools at our 9th Music and Arts summer camp.  In Clayton Scott’s “Music Through the Ages,” we heard stories of Franz Lehár's “The Merry Widow,” and Wagner’s “Aida.”  CT’s “Musicianship” classes all learned to improvise to Duke Ellington's  “C Jam Blues.”  Enrichment classes - ukulele, drumming, chamber music, Klezmer & arranging, improvisation, fiddling, and musical theatre were featured in an inspired Friday afternoon concert, showing off “samples” of what had been learned in the week.  As with each summer, good friends were made in every age bracket, and some lifetime musical bonds happened.  As a bonus for the LCCC children, some of our younger violinists performed in an impromptu concert at lunchtime on Friday in room 318.  Such a sharing moment within our MNjcc community is what it is really all about.
