    Manfred Kirchheimer, professor of film at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, poses the question “What does it mean to be Jewish?” to a spectrum of Jews varying in age, ideological orientation and religious identity. A humorous and thought-provoking documentary that illustrates an array of contradictions inherent in Judaism.

    Guest Speaker

    Susan G. Cole is an activist, writer and cultural critic. She attended college at Harvard and was a member of Harvard-Radcliffe's first women's group and received the prestigious Rockefeller Fellowship. Upon returning to Toronto she became a passionate activist in the movement to end violence against women and has written two books on the subject (both published by Second Story). Her play A Fertile Imagination, about a lesbian couple trying to have a baby, was a major hit for Nightwood Theatre and has been staged seven times across the country. She was the Senior Entertainment Editor at NOW Magazine for over 20 years and now acts as Books Editor, film and stage reviewer and cultural commentator. She is a regular columnist for Canada's feminist magazine Herizons and is a member of the Toronto Film Critics Association. In 1995, she was the recipient of the Women of Distinction Award, in the communications category. Susan lives in Toronto with her partner and has recently become a grandmother.
