    2019 SUZUKI CAMP WRAP UP

Our 10th Suzuki Music & Arts camp recently held their Friday afternoon end of week concert on July 12. While each segment of the concert could be easily described in words, it is less simple to describe the buildup of energy and inspiration that emanated from each class/ensemble and each young musician while demonstrating what they learned in 5 days. The camp was filled to capacity with 50 children aged 4.5 to 13, from a variety of GTA Suzuki schools who study either piano, violin, or cello. All levels of ability were welcomed, with a few disabled children in the mix. Intensive instrumental study took place during the morning hours. Afternoon hours were devoted to enrichment choices ranging from pottery, arts & crafts, swimming, musical theatre, chamber music, composition, klezmer, ukulele, drumming, fiddling and improv. At our concert each class took 3-4 minutes to demonstrate a short work. Our loving and excellent team of teachers were mostly colleagues who have come to teach year after year since the inception of the camp back in 2010. When Shinichi Suzuki says, “where love is deep, much can be accomplished,” this perfectly describes all of our combined experiences whether camper, teacher, Suzuki Buddy parent or grandparent. We are grateful and inspired by the loving care that all of our young “Suzuki” Buddies” showed toward each camper. We are equally grateful for the MNjcc support staff for all that they did behind the scenes in order for this camp to happen.
