March 16 - 7:30pm; March 18 - 2pm (Fidelio)
March 23 - 7:30pm; March 25 - 2pm (The Magic Flute)
The Toronto City Opera presents 2 classic operas: Fidelio by Beethoven and The Magic Flute by Mozart. Fidelio will be presented in German with projected titles in English, The Magic Flute will be presented in English. Both operas will be accompanied by a large Chorus.
Fidelio is Beethoven’s only opera, revised three times, rearranged the last scene ten times, each successive change enhanced the richness of the opera. Fidelio is a story of love, human struggle and justice. Its music truly reflects Beethoven’s composition style and sober personality.
Mozart’s The Magic Flute is colourful, enchanting, magical and witty. It shares the same theme as Fidelio in love, justice and eventual triumph of good against evil.
