Swim Lesson FAQ

MNjcc PoolQ: I really liked the instructor I had last session. Can I get the same instructor again?

A. All of our swim instructors at Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre are top notch! Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate instructor requests for group lessons. You may, however, request a specific instructor for private lessons. We cannot guarantee an instructor’s availability from one session to the next, though we will do our best to match each participant with their requested instructor, or someone with a similar teaching style.

Q: Can your program accommodate individuals with special needs?

A. The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is committed to inclusion, and our Aquatics department strives to make swimming lessons safe and accessible to everyone. We offer both integrated group lessons and private lessons for individuals of all abilities. Please contact the Aquatics department to determine which option would be the best for your needs.
If you or your child has special needs, please notify the Aquatics department ahead of the session. If you are the parent or guardian of a child with special needs or a medical condition, we ask that you remain in the pool area for the duration of their lesson.

Q: What if I miss a few classes or I have to cancel my lessons all together? Will I get a refund or a credit for future lessons or programs? Can the fees be prorated for missed classes?

A. The Aquatics department recognizes that your schedule might change for an unforeseen reason. Private lesson participants who register for seven or more lessons are eligible for one make-up lesson per session. Participants who register for six private lessons or fewer are not entitled to a make-up lesson. Unfortunately, it is not possible to offer make-up lessons for group lesson participants. The MNjcc is not responsible for classes missed due to illness or personal emergencies.
Refunds are only possible up to one week prior to the start of classes. A $25 cancellation fee is applied to all cancellations. Refunds are not provided once the session begins. The MNjcc cannot retroactively refund the difference between member and non-member prices.
Fees will be prorated only for late registration. Fees cannot be prorated for planned absences.

Q: Can I register for more than one session at the same time?

A. Registration for swim lessons runs seasonally, four times a year: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Check for upcoming program registration dates.  Due to differences in the schedule from one session to the next, and recognizing that your schedule and child’s level are likely to change throughout the year, we only register for one session at a time.

Q: Can I book private lessons in shorter sessions?

A. The Aquatics department offers two mini sessions of private lessons per year: pre fall regular session and post winter regular session. Depending on the dates of holidays, 3-6 private lessons can be booked, either in addition to regular sessions or as standalone lessons. Fewer private lessons may be booked during a regular session, depending on pool space and instructor availability.

Q: Can I take photographs or video recordings?

A. The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre respects the privacy  of our patrons and staff, and strives to ensure that our facility is a safe and comfortable place to learn to swim.  As such, our facility does not allow photography or videography.

Q: Does Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre offer first aid training?

A. The Aquatics department offers first aid training for individuals who are pursuing lifeguard programming only. Emergency First Aid with CPR-B is offered in conjunction with Bronze Medallion. Standard First Aid with CPR-C is offered as part of the Bronze Cross course.
