With Iain Scott, one of Canada’s foremost opera educators
The leading male operatic voice has been the tenor since the nineteenth century and into the “recording era”. Names like Enrico Caruso, Jussi Bjoerling, Lauritz Melchior, Beniamino Gigli, Luciano Pavarotti, Jon Vickers, Carlo Bergonzi and today, Jonas Kaufmann, thrill audiences and collectors of recordings.

We will see that the term “tenor” covers a wonderful variety. Explore the categories within the tenor range, that is, the “fachs” from “counter-tenors” to “helden-tenors”.
